Will This Seriously Injured Schnauzer Make It After Being Left In A Remote Field For Days?

“I got it out. Look at its front leg,” I said, my voice heavy with concern. “Look at its mental status—good spirit, then its paws.” The dog’s condition seemed hopeful at first glance, though the injury to its leg appeared serious. “This one below doesn’t seem that serious, but the area above might be… a bit serious,” I continued, trying to stay calm. “But it can move, it doesn’t seem to be a comminuted fracture or something.”

The fur baby had been found 300 kilometers away from us. An eyewitness told us that the dog had been left in a grassy area to die for quite a few days. The dog was in dire need of medical treatment, but the eyewitness would not transport it to us. So, Liu Li had to hire someone to pick up the child. “Today there was a call for help. It was in Shangzhi,” Liu Li explained. “There was a dog whose front legs might have been crushed. The owner just threw it outside.”

When the dog finally arrived, our hearts sank. “Oh my god, poor child!” Liu Li exclaimed, her voice trembling. “After being crushed, the owner threw it away. Oh my god, it’s all rotten with bones exposed.” Dr. Song inspected the dog, confirming the grim situation. “This must be amputated,” he said softly. “But it can’t be amputated in this state. We need to stabilize the dog first.”

“Can you feed him anything?” Liu Li asked, her concern deepening. “He can’t even get up,” Dr. Song replied. “It’s a very young dog. Ah, the person is so…” Liu Li’s voice trailed off, filled with frustration. The dog’s condition was critical—its brain was damaged, intracranial pressure was high, and it was severely dehydrated. “The paw can’t be saved,” Dr. Song concluded. “We need to give him anti-inflammatory and nutrition.”

Liu Li shook her head, despairing at the irresponsibility of some pet owners. “I really don’t understand it now,” she said. “These people who raise dogs. Why are you so irresponsible? Throw the pet away if it’s sick or injured. If you treat him in time, he won’t be like this.” Dr. Song agreed, noting that they needed to wait until the dog’s status improved before performing the necessary surgery.

“Is this a heart tonic?” Liu Li asked as Dr. Song prepared the medication. “Yes,” he replied. “It also reduces intracranial pressure.” Liu Li watched as the treatment began, her heart aching for the dog. “Be strong and stay alive,” she whispered. “We are going to save you. Please be strong, did you hear me? Okay?” Despite the dire circumstances, she held onto hope, knowing that with proper care, the dog had a chance at recovery and a new life filled with love and compassion.
