The dog was purchased by her owner 8 years ago and spent all those years tied to a tree in a desolate place. The land became a swamp during the rainy season and unbearably hot like desert sand in the summer. The chain that bound her was heavy, and over time, it became part of the tree. Without much care or attention, she fell seriously ill. She barked loudly for days to alert her owner, but he ignored her cries as she grew weaker. Her eyes reflected profound sadness and despair, and though neighbors noticed her barking and contacted the owner, he dismissed their concerns, saying, “I’ll just buy a better, new dog.”
When we received videos of her condition, we were heartbroken and decided to intervene. We arranged to meet the owner and promised to pay him in exchange for the dog. To our surprise, he agreed and even seemed to have bathed her before our arrival. However, as we feared, he demanded more money, claiming, “Look at this beautiful dog. You need to pay me more.” That was the last time we saw him. We hurriedly took the dog, who was confused and scared, into our car. She had never been in such a space before and required immediate care. Her body was covered in dirt, and her ears were severely inflamed, infested with ticks. She was malnourished, with her ribs clearly visible, and her health was in dire condition.
At the vet, we learned she had endured years of neglect. Her owner had kept her tied up only to use her for breeding. She had given birth to numerous litters, which had taken a severe toll on her health, yet the owner had completely ignored her suffering. As we shaved off her matted fur, we discovered thousands of ticks embedded in her skin. Despite her exhaustion, she cooperated with us during her bath—the likely second one of her life—and layers of dirt flowed away, leaving her feeling calm and clean for the first time in years.
Thankfully, she did not have any life-threatening issues and would recover with proper care. We reported her owner for his inhumane treatment and prepared a treatment plan, along with nutritious meals and medicine, to help her heal. For the first time, she experienced comfort and love, sleeping peacefully on a warm, soft mattress. Soon after, we received wonderful news—she was adopted by a loving family who committed to continuing her treatment. Her new life marks the start of a brighter chapter, filled with care and compassion. After 8 long years of neglect, she finally has a chance to experience joy and love. We are incredibly grateful to everyone who helped give this old dog a beautiful and happy ending.
