It’s so warm that a police officer rescues a neglected dog found in a garden

A heartbreaking scene unfolded at a public park in Bloomington, Indiana, when onlookers discovered a boxer-pit bull mix abandoned, malnourished, and injured. Touched by her plight, they immediately contacted the sheriff’s department and christened the brave pup “Daisy.” With the local animal shelter closed for the day, Rosie Ahlberg, a volunteer at the City of Bloomington Animal Care and Control facility, stepped up to foster Daisy overnight.

Ahlberg’s caring touch revealed a deeper story of neglect. Beyond the open wounds and burns, Daisy, estimated to be only a few years old, suffered from a ruptured ACL, a damaged meniscus, and a luxating patella – likely a consequence of years of hardship. Efforts to locate Daisy’s owners led to a couple who claimed they hadn’t seen her since April when she was hit by a car. This revelation presented Ahlberg and her fiancé, Jeff, with an unexpected opportunity.

A heart full of love making the big decision

Jeff, a known animal lover, and Ahlberg already shared their home with two cats, a rescued dog, and another dog. Adding another pet was a significant choice. Yet, witnessing Daisy’s gentle nature and seamless integration with their existing furry companions softened their hearts. “We truly wanted to give this dog the opportunity to know love and what a wonderful home is,” Ahlberg shared.

Daisy thrived in her new environment. Despite her young age, she possessed an uncanny calmness, unfazed by loud noises and affectionate towards the other animals. Ahlberg jokingly admitted to Daisy stealing some precious bed space, but the pup’s sweetness made it all worthwhile. “Daisy’s head is always pressed up against the bedroom window as I go for school in the morning,” Ahlberg fondly remarked. The past few weeks had been a testament to Daisy’s unwavering love and loyalty towards her newfound family. While her physical recovery continues, with surgery on the horizon, one thing remains certain – Daisy’s life has bloomed with love and a second chance at happiness.
