A small puppy with bony features and dirt all over his body followed them, while his front legs were wobbly and turned inward. His age couldn’t have been more than three months. She gave him the name Kingston. Sherin told The Dodo that the other dogs approached them expecting food, but Kingston was scared. He wouldn’t let them come near him. She left food for the puppy and quickly returned to the cruise ship to look for help. Animal House Jamaica was one of the organizations she found online, so she contacted them to see if they could provide any assistance in rescuing Kingston.

Sherin was determined to save the dog she saw in a picture, despite her family’s skepticism about the possibility. She couldn’t help but feel that the little dog was sweet but scared. Fortunately, the rescue organization offered to assist Sherin in bringing the dog to their shelter as long as she could help pay for his veterinary care and flight to Seattle, Washington, where she lived. Although Sherin’s parents were hesitant, they agreed to let her take the dog if she covered the travel expenses. Sherin started a fundraising campaign to share Kingston’s story and ask for help from friends and family.

Despite her short stay in Jamaica, Sherin was determined to rescue a puppy she had seen wandering on the streets. However, the ranch employees were hesitant to assist her at first, as they saw the puppy as just another abandoned dog. Undeterred, Sherin continued to pester them for three weeks until they finally caught the puppy and brought him to the shelter. The rescue contacted Sherin soon after with news that the malnourished and injured puppy, whom she had named Kingston, was safe at the shelter. Sherin raised over $900 with the help of her family and friends to fly Kingston home and donated the remaining cash to the rescue who had taken good care of him. Finally, after patiently waiting, Kingston arrived in mid-February. Despite her fears that he would be stressed out in a new environment, Kingston settled into his new home beautifully, and Sherin couldn’t have been happier.

According to Sherin, after exploring for around 10 minutes, Kingston came back to her and sat on her lap. She could easily tell that he was in dire need of attention and love. After a medical checkup with his new veterinarian, it was discovered that his legs were bowed as a result of calcium deficiency. This could have been due to Kingston’s improper diet during his early life stages. However, it is expected to get better with time, albeit the family would keep a close watch on his progress. Sherin revealed that Kingston had been abandoned by his owners since he was a puppy, leading to a life of hardship and hunger. Kingston is currently eight months old, happy, healthy, and loves meeting new people. He also adores his big brother, a six-year-old Labrador named Bentley. Kingston now enjoys going to the dog park, relaxing in a cozy bed, and satisfying his hunger with all the treats he wants. Initially hesitant, Sherin’s parents have also fallen in love with Kingston, with her dad taking naps with him while her mom tucks him in with his blanket every night. Sherin takes pride in Kingston’s transformation and seeing how great his life is now. She has never been to a country where feral dogs are abundant, and Kingston opened her eyes to things she never knew.
