The Sᴇᴀᴛᴛʟᴇ Barkery is a food truck for dogs that sells delicious, handmade treats. While there is a small menu for their two-legged companions, the food truck is primarily aimed towards ᴘᴇᴄᴋɪsʜ pups. While some people may wonder if the world really needs a doggie food truck, every dog owner knows how much our furry friends deserve an extra lovely treat once in a while. They do so much for us, and it is always a wonderful feeling when we can do something special for them in return.
The Sᴇᴀᴛᴛʟᴇ Barkery is owned and created by Dawn and Ben Ford. The dog-loving couple met while working in the restaurant business and then went on to run a dog-walking business together. Now, those two worlds have come together in the shape of the Sᴇᴀᴛᴛʟᴇ Barkery. Ben said: “We had zero experience in the food truck world other than being ʜᴜɴɢʀʏ customers. My wife, Dawn cooked up this idea years ago and when the opportunity presented itself in 2014, she convinced me it was now or never!”
The Barkery was originally Dawn’s idea. After a number of store-bought dog treats had been ʀᴇᴄᴀʟʟᴇᴅ for safety reasons, Dawn started baking her own treats to give to the dogs she walked. The dogs’ owners started buying the treats from Dawn and she started toying with the idea of starting the Barkery.
The couple said it took a lot of work to get “Buster” (the truck) outfitted and ready to go down the road because of ʟᴀᴡs, permitting, and the like. Not to mention, every city views food trucks differently, which created more hurdles for them to get over. From the time they got their ʙᴜsɪɴᴇss ʟɪᴄᴇɴsᴇ in October 2014, it took 8 months to be ready to do their first event.
The Barkery has now been up and running for five years and the response has been overwhelmingly positive. Dog-lovers flock to the truck to give their pups tasty, quality treats. The Barkery offers a wide selection of treats, anything from duck necks to beautiful puppy pretzels. They even take cake orders. Dawn prepares most of the baked stuff herself and her three ʀᴇsᴄᴜᴇ puppies are her very willing test subjects.
