The moment I saw his picture, my heart ached to help him. This poor dog had been abandoned and was nowhere in sight when help arrived. Searching for him felt like a mission destined to fail, but when he was finally found, it was a relief beyond words to see him safe.
A neighbor explained that Beezer had been abandoned when he developed mange. The neighbor wanted to help but was afraid of the dog’s previous owner, a man with a machete. Rescuing Beezer became urgent, and thankfully, he was safely hospitalized. At 8 years old, he weighed just 33 pounds, was severely emaciated, and suffered from mange, infections, and wounds—including a strange cut on his body. His pale gums and anemia hinted that he might need a transfusion.
During his first trip to the vet, Beezer fell asleep in the car, perhaps his first peaceful moment in a long time. Despite his condition, he wagged his tail—a glimmer of hope and joy amidst his suffering. His dark past was over, and a new chapter filled with love, care, and comfort had begun.
On Day 3, Beezer received his name—a fitting choice for his sweet and gentle nature. Tests revealed that his nose deformity wasn’t due to cryptococcosis, as initially feared, but rather an untreated injury that worsened over time. He needed a blood transfusion to prepare for surgery to remove a bottle cap and two bullet slugs lodged in his body.
By Day 5, Beezer’s health showed signs of improvement. His breathing became easier, and his tail wagged almost non-stop. Despite his ordeal, he showered his foster caregiver, Dr. Paulina Pepper, with affection, rubbing his head against her in gratitude. For the first time in years, Beezer experienced warmth, comfort, and safety.
Over the next month, Beezer transformed. He regained weight, his fur began to grow back, and his joyful spirit became infectious. On Day 30, he underwent successful surgery to remove the bottle cap and rock from his stomach. He also received dental care, losing a tooth—though not much for the Tooth Fairy. Despite the challenges, Beezer emerged stronger, happier, and healthier.
By Day 50, Beezer was unrecognizable from the dog we first rescued. His fur had grown in, his weight improved, and his vibrant personality shone. He was transferred to Hand in Paw, a rescue organization, where he continued to thrive. Beezer’s transformation was nothing short of miraculous.
Today, Beezer is adopted and living his best life with a kind woman who adores him. He still has some weight to gain and fur to grow, but his resilience and joy are unmatched. Beezer’s journey is a testament to the power of love and care.
