A starving puppy abandoned in a ditch at midnight, see how he is living in love now.

On a cold midnight in July 10, a puppy was abandoned on Okie Street, left to fend for himself in a cruel and heartless act. We received a call the next morning that a dog had been found by a gutter, in a pitiful condition. The nine-month-old puppy, now named Shepherd, had been left to die in a ditch, helpless and unable to move. For hours, he lay there, exhausted and alone, with no one to care for him. His body was frail, and his spirit seemed broken.

When we brought Shepherd to an emergency animal hospital, we learned the extent of his suffering. Weighing only 15 pounds, he was severely underweight—he should have weighed between 25 and 30 pounds. Shepherd was emaciated, suffering from mange, and had a secondary skin infection. His body was covered with open sores, and it was clear that he had been through tremendous physical and emotional pain. For three days, he remained at the vet clinic, receiving medical care, but it was uncertain whether he would survive. After those first few critical days, he was released into the care of one of our most experienced fosters.

In the first 24 hours, Shepherd was weak and lethargic. His droopy ears and tail were a clear sign of his sorrow. He was nothing more than a sad, broken puppy in desperate need of love and care. His condition was so dire that it seemed almost impossible that he would recover. However, by day four, a subtle change began. Shepherd wagged his tail for the first time, and his ears perked up a little. There was a spark of life that hadn’t been there before, and it was a sign that the puppy who had been left to die might still have a chance.

By the end of the first week, Shepherd had made incredible progress. He was able to stand on his own and even take a few shaky steps. His energy was building back up, and he began to engage with the other dogs in the foster home. One dog in particular, a large Rottweiler, caught his attention. Shepherd was eager to join him, and his excitement was a heartwarming sign of his growing confidence and joy. It was as if Shepherd, now full of life again, was eager to engage with the world around him.

As the weeks went by, Shepherd’s transformation continued. By the third week, he was strong enough to go on actual walks. What had started as a few hesitant steps had now turned into longer, more confident strides. Shepherd could now walk down the street and even keep up with the other dogs in the house. It became clear that he was no longer the sick, weak puppy we had first rescued. His new name, Tig, reflected his newfound strength and vitality, and he began to live up to the nickname.

Tig’s recovery was nothing short of miraculous. Within three months, he had gone from a frail, sickly puppy to a vibrant, playful dog. His coat, once patchy and dull, now shone with health. His body had filled out, and he was gaining strength every day. He had become an active, happy puppy, always running around with excitement. Watching him thrive was one of the most rewarding experiences, knowing that his will to live had carried him through the toughest of times.

Now, Tig is living his best life in his forever home. He is loved and adored by his new family, and he has become the perfect companion. Tig has a sister, Annie, and an older brother, Jester, with whom he loves to play and cuddle. He’s their little shadow, always following them around and soaking up all the love he can. Tig’s life is filled with joyful moments, from chasing his tail to playing in the snow. His love for his family is evident in the way he interacts with them, always seeking affection and comfort. His sweet nature and playful spirit have made him an irreplaceable part of his adoptive family.

Today, Tig is a testament to the power of love and care in healing even the most broken creatures. From the abandoned puppy lying helpless in a ditch to the joyful, energetic dog he is now, Tig’s transformation is nothing short of extraordinary. His story is a reminder that no matter how dire the circumstances, there is always hope. With the right care, love, and a little patience, any animal can heal and thrive. Tig’s journey is a beautiful example of resilience, and we are forever grateful for the chance to have witnessed his incredible recovery.
