Stevonnie Wells-Doyle has been fostering dogs for more than a decade. I was pleasantly surprised by the Pit Bull litter I recently received. Graycee, a 2-year-old dog, arrived at the Stevonis’ home three weeks ago after being rescued by Rescue Rovers, a Utah-based organization.
A few days ago, Gracie gave birth to a litter of 11 puppies. To Stevonnie’s surprise, Gracie carefully picked up each puppy. She placed them gently on her lap. The intimate moment was captured on video.
Stevonnie believes that Graycee, being a first-time mother, asked her for reassurance and comfort. “She would curl up in my lap. She would even nurse the puppies if I let her,” Doyle said.
Despite having fostered over 100 dogs in the past Stevonnie considers the bond she shares with dogs truly special. She intends to continue this work.
But Stevonnie realizes that what Gracie did was extraordinary. “She’s the dog who brought her puppies to me as if to say ‘here you go,'” Doyle added.
Feel free to share this intimate moment with the dog lovers you know.
For those wondering what the room is, a friend of Stevonnie and the rescue organization explained on Reddit that these rooms are typically used as birthing rooms or puppy rooms. This is because puppies have difficulty controlling their functions and it is safe to confine them to an area. It also prevents any hazards that could pose a danger to both puppies and humans.
To manage the chaos during birth, they often place towels, sheets, or other materials in the pool to keep the mother comfortable. The pool also serves as a refuge for mom when she needs some time away from her little ones.
Once the puppies grow and progress in training, they will be allowed in parts of the house. When they reach an age where they can be spayed/neutered and live independently without their mother, they will become available for adoption through Red Rover.
