Many of us prefer to shower our pets with care and affection, but unfortunately, there are some bad pet owners out there, proving that some people should never be around animals for their safety.
One of these people was the owner of Chunk, a beautiful three-month-old dog who had lost all his activity and vitality. Her owner has been cruel to her since she was born. They simply left her on the side of the road, tying her to a tree so she couldn’t escape after three months.
The poor pup was abandoned in the rain, clearly terrified and wondering what she could have done wrong. Fortunately, even if it was by accident, the local fire department discovered the imprisoned pup. On a cold October day in Sacramento, a member of the department rescued Chunk just in the nick of time.
They were responding to an emergency call when they noticed a four-foot-tall man on the side of the road. Since it was an emergency, the crew couldn’t just go; They were to return as soon as their call was resolved.
The harsh weather was very hard on her; The firefighters remember how the poor little creature was completely shivering from the cold. Firefighter Mike Thole chose to take baby Chunk under his wing and bring her back to the fire station. Mike and his teammates did everything they could to give this poor dog some much needed love and care.
Because she was still very cold, the first thing they did was give her a warm bath, which was followed by many hugs and cuddles from the firefighters.
She wasn’t just sick with the flu; It was clear from the beginning that she was suffering from severe mange. It is not uncommon to see a skin problem in dogs that have been abused or abused by their owners. Chunk received initial assistance from the fire station before being transported to an animal shelter for additional treatment and the hope of one day finding a permanent, loving home.
She was taken in by the Front Street Animal Shelter to treat her mange and ensure her full recovery. A nursing home has also been set up where she can stay until she feels better. It took a while for her fur to grow back, and Chunk’s recovery didn’t go as smoothly as they had hoped.
As Chunk spent her days at the shelter or in her foster home, one individual couldn’t stop thinking about her. Firefighter Mike Thole surprised everyone when he returned to the shelter. The pitbull certainly hasn’t forgotten who this person is, and you can see how happy she is to see her savior again.
“We all fell in love with her,” the Sacramento Fire Department wrote on Facebook.
Mike didn’t come to the shelter alone; He was accompanied by his wife and three daughters. And they were there for a reason! The firefighter and his family were eager to care for her indefinitely.
“Even though Mike is against it, by a vote of 4-1 it looks like Chunk might end up getting a permanent home!” He concludes the post with a smile.
Firefighter Mike Thole and his family visited the Front Street Animal Shelter today. The gang gathered to welcome foster pup Chunk home. Mike and the rest of the team rescued Chunk from Engine 14 last Sunday, and he is recovering at the shelter. Despite Mike’s denials, it looks like Chunk will get a permanent home by a vote of four to one! Thank you to Bobby Mann and the entire Front Street Animal Shelter staff for your unwavering commitment to our area.
Mike and his family had to wait four months for the mange treatment to be completed before they could take her home, but they were all thrilled to finally be able to adopt her.
“I think the wonderful thing about this whole story is that not only did this dog get his forever home, but he got the opportunity to go into a foster home, which is where we are now,” said Bobby Mann, a shelter worker. We are always searching for our refuge, to become happy and healthy.”
