Dolphins are intelligent and curious mammals that are often credited with saving humans and animals in times of distress. They are known to be playful, but they can also be protective and unpredictable. There are many stories of dolphins guiding ships through rough waters or defending humans from sharks.
This dolphin rescue involves a small cinnamon-brown dog that fell unnoticed into the turbulent waters of a canal off Marco Island, Florida. When a group of dolphins noticed the little dog, he must have struggled to stay afloat.
The dolphins swam towards the terrified dog and started circling around him and making a bunch of noises. This noise caught the attention of some nearby residents, who headed to the edge of the canal to see what was happening. Fortunately, they noticed the little dog flopping wildly in the water, surrounded by dolphins.
One of the dolphins was seen pushing the exhausted dog with his nose to help keep him on the surface of the water, and another dolphin was seen getting under the dolphin to help him stay afloat. The dolphins seemed to sense what they had to do to keep the dog alive while also attracting the attention of people who could help rescue the dog from deeper waters.
Passersby quickly called the fire department. First responders rushed to rescue the helpless little dog from the raging waters that were sure to drown him. Firefighters administered first aid and estimated the poor little thing had been in the water for 15 hours.
The lucky dog certainly owes his life to the pod of dolphins that came to his rescue and had the smarts to ask for help. Not to mention the brave firefighters who rushed to help.
