Morgan is a senior dachshund who has just turned 18 years old. Morgan ended up at Lee County Domestic Animal Services (LCDAS) in Fort Myers, Florida, when his owner died.
When shelter officials realized Morgan’s age, they decided he needed to be moved from the shelter to a place where he could live out the rest of his days in peace. The shelter decided to contact Senior Paws Sanctuary (SPS) to see if they could help the elderly little dog.
Morgan’s mother, Kate Reidy, told The Dodo: “LCDAS phoned SPS to inform us that an unadoptable elderly dog had arrived and wanted to know if we could help him.” “The creator and organizer of SPS went to see Morgan and fell in love with him.”
Morgan went to live with Reedy and her 10-year-old dog, Charlie, because all dogs with SPS are sent to foster homes. Reddy expected Morgan to be a slower, sleepier type of dog since he was already 18 years old, but that was not the case at all.
Reidy went on to comment: “I joke that Morgan has Benjamin Button disease.” “During the last year of his care, he became more active and energetic and his personality blossomed.” Most people can’t believe his age!”
Morgan quickly adapted to his foster home and began to enjoy every aspect of his new existence. His new mom has helped him climb onto the sofa and bed at his own pace, and he loves exploring his new home.
“He likes to be the center of attention,” Reidy said. “He loves to cuddle with you as much as he can, and will sometimes wake up and smell your face just to make sure he knows who to sit with!” It’s nice.”
No one can be sure about Morgan’s first 18 years, what he accomplished or what he saw. His foster mother decided to make him a bucket list because his foster home seemed to make him more energetic and more motivated to see the world.
So far, Morgan has been able to fly on a plane…
…Meet a sergeant and become a junior deputy…
…Attending a baseball game…
…Meet Santa…
…He sat on a motorcycle…
…and even participate in yoga on the beach.
Morgan is a senior citizen, but his age has never stopped him from accomplishing anything on his bucket list, and he loves every trip his mother takes him on.
“He loves examining new smells and new people, so all of his trips were a way for him to explore new locations and new smells,” she said. “He loves the attention and affection he receives from meeting new people.”
Morgan still has a few things on his bucket list that he’d like to cross off, like riding a hot air balloon, going to a dog spa day, and even meeting Ellen DeGeneres. Morgan will be 19 years old soon, and his greatest birthday wish is to receive birthday cards from people all over the world. (His foster mother would also love that some of these cards contained a dollar that he could give to his SPS teammates.)
Most 18-year-old dogs would probably prefer to spend the rest of their days napping, but Morgan still has a lot to see, and he and his mother won’t stop until he’s dead.
