A grieving mother dog had to say goodbye to her puppy after being adopted in central China.

The mixed-breed stray dog had been in the care of students at Zhengzhou University in Henan province since mid-September, when she gave birth to seven puppies.

The video, filmed on Monday, shows the grieving mother giving her brown puppy one last kiss before sending it off with its new owner.

The owner was seen carrying the little puppy in her arms to her scooter, while the worried mother followed them.

The mother dog stopped next to the owner’s scooter, her head lowered, her tail down, and her ears drooped, as if begging to see her child again.

The owner dropped the little dog off to his mother, who kissed him goodbye and licked his face.

The owner’s voice was heard assuring the mother dog: “Don’t worry, I will take good care of your puppy.”

Then the mother dog turns her head and struts away, but not before taking one last look at her adorable pup.

The viral video has moved millions of people online, with many commenting that the sad farewell looked like “something straight out of a movie”.
