Because I’m ugly, I don’t deserve to receive love from others

Sam was a dog unlike any other. His coat was patchy, and his eyes were uneven, giving him an appearance that people often found unattractive. Everywhere he went, people would look at him with pity or disgust, and Sam could feel their judgment. “Because I’m ugly, I don’t deserve to receive love from others,” Sam thought to himself every day. He longed to be like the other dogs, the ones who were petted and loved, the ones who people would smile at and offer treats to. But for Sam, life was different.

Abandoned as a puppy, Sam had grown up in the streets. He wandered from one alley to another, surviving on scraps and trying to find shelter from the cold rain. The only company he had were his own sad thoughts. Sometimes, he would see families walking their dogs in the park, and he would hide behind a tree, watching from a distance. He imagined what it would be like to be loved and cared for, to have someone call his name with affection. But he always reminded himself that his looks kept him from having that kind of life.

One day, Sam was wandering near an old bakery when he noticed a kind old woman feeding stray cats. He approached cautiously, unsure of how she would react to him. She glanced at him for a moment, and for the first time, someone didn’t turn away in disgust. Instead, she smiled warmly and held out her hand. “Come here, sweet boy,” she said softly. Sam, hesitant but hopeful, moved closer.

For the first time, Sam felt something he hadn’t felt before—kindness. The woman patted his head and gave him a small piece of bread. It wasn’t much, but it was enough to fill his heart with warmth. Day after day, Sam returned to that same spot, and the woman was always there, waiting for him with food and gentle words. She never once treated him as though he were ugly or undeserving.

Sam began to realize that love wasn’t something you had to look a certain way to deserve. It was something you earned by just being yourself, no matter how you looked on the outside. As he spent more time with the old woman, he started to believe that maybe, just maybe, he was worthy of love after all.

One rainy afternoon, the old woman took Sam into her home. She gave him a warm bath and a comfortable bed to sleep in. For the first time in his life, Sam felt safe and cherished. It didn’t matter to her that he wasn’t the most handsome dog. To her, he was perfect.

Sam’s life had changed forever. He learned that love isn’t about appearances—it’s about the heart. And in the eyes of the woman who had saved him, Sam was the most beautiful dog in the world.
