Thankfully, her fate took a turn for the better when kind-hearted individuals spotted her and immediately contacted Stray Rescue of St. Louis.

These Good Samaritans, unable to turn a blind eye to the dog’s plight, captured photos and contacted Stray Rescue of St. Louis. The rescue staff, moved by the dog’s condition, wasted no time. They immediately set out to rescue the vulnerable animal. Upon arrival, they found the dog, aptly named Tuscany, in a critical state. Not only was she suffering from severe dehydration and emaciation, but her body bore the scars of hardship. Bite wounds marred her legs, belly, and armpit, and her skin was in a state of decay.
The rescuers knew they had a fight on their hands. Tuscany’s condition was dire. An immediate call was placed to the hospital, and Tuscany was rushed to veterinary care. Upon examination, the full extent of her suffering became clear – she was anemic and required an emergency blood transfusion. To worsen matters, she was additionally diagnosed with kidney failure.
The rescuers pondered how long Tuscany had been alone, navigating the treacherous streets. They imagined the harsh realities she had faced – the scorching sun, the relentless search for food and water, the constant threat of parasites and callous humans, and the competition for survival with other hungry strays. It was a lonely, terrifying existence, a stark contrast to the comfort and love a dog deserves.

Even more encouraging, she showed an appetite for breakfast the following morning.
