Loyal guardians on duty

The drama began when a menacing monacled cobra slithered through the front gate of the family home. Two-year-old Moxie, a white dachshund, wasted no time raising the alarm with a flurry of barks. Her four-year-old black dachshund sibling, Miley, joined the fray with even more decisive action. The video shows Miley courageously latching onto the snake with her jaws, their fight becoming a desperate dance of life and death.

For two agonizing minutes, the brave dachshunds battled the venomous reptile. They took turns, one biting the snake’s tail, the other targeting its head, in a relentless display of loyalty and protectiveness. Their unwavering defense proved successful – the snake was subdued. Unfortunately, victory came at a terrible price.

The battle against the snake wasn’t without consequence. Miley, who had bravely taken the brunt of the fight, had sustained a severe bite from the cobra. Despite immediate veterinary care, her young body succumbed to the potent venom shortly after. While Moxie miraculously survived, the snake’s poison robbed her of her sight. Skye, the one-year-old daughter of the homeowners, remained blissfully unaware of the drama unfolding outside, safely asleep throughout the ordeal.

A heavy heart, enduring gratitude

The homeowners, Jaime and Pauie Selim, were understandably devastated by the loss of their beloved Miley. They only became aware of the incident upon returning home from work. Their home security cameras held the key to the unfolding drama. Jaime, expressing a mix of grief and pride, stated, “We were stunned, but we also had a lot of pride in the dogs. My dogs deserve a lot of credit for keeping my infant Skye secure.”
