‘Piglet-Like’ Puppy Thrives After a New Chance at a Better Life

Many pet owners dread the thought of their furry companions ending up at a shelter. We all dream of a happy life for our beloved animals. Unfortunately, unforeseen circumstances can sometimes force owners to relinquish their pets. Chrissy Elder, a kind-hearted woman, understands this all too well. That’s why she makes regular visits to the animal shelter in Charlotte, North Carolina, looking for animals in need.

A chance encounter and a compassionate heart

In July 2022, Chrissy’s visit brought her face-to-face with a special dog: a charming pit mix with floppy ears that resembled a piglet. This sweet pup had been surrendered to the shelter due to his owner’s health struggles. Sadly, understaffed shelters can struggle to provide specialized care. Confined to a kennel, the dog’s skin condition worsened by the day. Witnessing his plight, Chrissy knew she had to step in and help.

From piggy’s plight to recovery and joy

Chrissy rushed the dog to the vet, where he received emergency treatment for his painful skin condition. He was diagnosed with a demodex infection and promptly renamed “Piggy,” a fitting name for his adorable, piglet-like features. Following his diagnosis, Piggy was placed in a foster home run by Forgotten, Now Family Rescue. There, he received loving care and twice-weekly medicated baths to combat his infection. Within a month, Piggy’s transformation was remarkable. Patches of fur began to reappear on his body, head, and limbs. More importantly, his spirit mirrored his physical recovery. The once-depressed dog blossomed into a happy, playful pup, showering everyone with affection and boundless energy.
