66-Day-Old Pregnant Mother Dog Coma Due to Exhaustion – A Very Difficult Rescue But Finally Happy

Meet Mimi, a brave and resilient mother dog who captured our hearts with her determination to survive. One fateful day, she was abandoned in front of our house, her tiny body—just 5 kilograms—struggling under the weight of her swollen belly. Clearly pregnant and nearing labor, Mimi was desperate for help. She tried to crawl through our gate, fainting from exhaustion as hunger and hardship took their toll.

It was heartbreaking to see Mimi in such a state. Her stomach, heavy with life, made it nearly impossible for her to find food. Starving and exhausted, she urgently needed care. We immediately transferred her to the veterinary clinic, hoping to provide her and her unborn puppies with a chance at survival.

Mimi was understandably nervous upon arriving at the vet, but after a few minutes, she calmed down and managed to eat a little pate. The veterinarians confirmed that her pregnancy had reached 65 days—far beyond the usual 60-day gestation period for dogs. Mimi could go into labor at any moment, but her fragile condition made the situation dangerous. She was too malnourished and weak to give birth on her own.

Just as we feared, Mimi went into labor shortly after arriving at the clinic. She delivered one puppy naturally, but the remaining puppies were trapped, and her contractions slowed. After two hours with no progress, it became clear that Mimi couldn’t give birth without medical assistance. The vet performed an emergency cesarean section, and four more puppies—three boys and two girls—were safely delivered.

Though the surgery was successful, Mimi’s challenges were far from over. Malnourished and exhausted, she couldn’t produce milk to feed her puppies. We stepped in to provide bottle feeding for the pups and ensured they stayed warm during their vulnerable first days. Despite her struggles, Mimi began to recover. Her appetite improved, and she gained the strength to care for her puppies.

Day by day, Mimi grew stronger, and her puppies thrived under our care. By Day 20, Mimi was spending more time with her little ones, and they were starting to open their eyes. At 35 days old, the puppies began to take their first wobbly steps and practice weaning. Their playful energy brought joy to everyone around them, and Mimi watched over them lovingly, her resilience shining through.

By Day 60, all the efforts to save Mimi and her puppies were rewarded. Each of the five puppies was adopted by loving families, ensuring they would grow up in safe and happy homes. As for Mimi, she returned to her forever home, where she could finally relax and enjoy the life she deserved.

Mimi’s story is a testament to the power of love, care, and second chances. From abandonment and near-tragedy to a future filled with love and hope, Mimi and her puppies remind us of the importance of compassion. Thank you for following Mimi’s journey, and may her story inspire kindness and support for animals in need.
