The sound of thunder and heavy rain is terrifying for most animals, especially stray animals who don’t have a warm spot in a cozy house.
Over the past few days, heavy rains have flooded the streets of Kolkata, India, forcing humans and animals to seek shelter from the storm.
Looking at the shivering dogs, Mandal felt it was only natural for him to help them. He shared his large umbrella with them and continued to direct traffic. A passerby snapped a photo of this kind gesture and put it up on social media, where it went viral and captured everyone’s hearts.
Everyone was delighted to watch the cop perform his duty with his “unexpected companions”. Kolkata Police posted the picture on Twitter, crowning it, “Moment of the day”. And for the two grateful street dogs, they appeared to be happy after finding a place to relax during the storm. And the look on their faces says it all.
India is one of the highest stray populations in the world. A Dogs Love estimates about 35-40 million stray dogs exist in this country.
Has the kindness of this officer moved you? You can always help strays by reaching out to your local animal shelter.
