It was a rainy and gloomy day in Brazil when Mayane Rodrigues witnessed something truly amazing. As she returned home from school, she noticed a little girl standing on the wet sidewalk, holding a wet and injured stray dog. This little girl, later identified as Cibely Stiegelmair, had put down her umbrella, removed her backpack and coat, and was now using them to keep the dog warm and dry.

Mayane watched in awe as Cibely carried the puppy in her arms and went on her way, like an angel sent to save the dog’s life. “It happened so quickly. It was quite emotional,” Mayane explained to Dodo. “I shared the video with a friend, who then shared it with a community group, and that’s how I found out who that angel was.”

Cibely Stiegelmair is only twelve years old, but on that day, she proved that age is just a number when it comes to compassion and kindness. “I was shocked when she arrived with the dog since she was sweating and soaking in the rain,” Cibely’s mother, Rejane Stiegelmair, told The Dodo. “Her clothes were stained with blood. I thought she was hurt, but she said she found the dog hurt.”

Although the dog was not seriously injured, Cibely knew she had to take care of it personally. “Cibely has a wonderful heart. She feels terrible about stray dogs,” Rejane said. “If she could, she would bring them all home.”

Cibely’s love for animals is not a new thing. Her own dog, Pretinha, greets the family with loving arms and is a testament to Cibely’s kind and caring nature. “As parents, we have always been proud of Cibely,” Rejane said. “But we’re even more so now!”
