The touching story of Snoopy, the dog who suffers from hearing loss, touches us deeply. After spending 653 days in the shelter, Snoopy’s story shows the dog’s desire to find a home.
Julie, a designer from Washington state, shares Snoopy’s story with us. She devotes her time as a volunteer at the Ben Franklin Humane Society in Kennewick, where Snoopy currently resides.
Throughout the two years, Julie builds a bond with Snoopy and witnesses his journey filled with obstacles and small victories.
Snoopy’s adventure began when he was surrendered to the shelter due to being diagnosed with Cushing’s disease – a condition that affects his sight and hearing – for a year.
Despite his hearing loss, Snoopy’s spirit remains intact. He finds comfort in nibbling on blankets and items inside his home as part of his routine.
Within months, Julie’s connection with Snoopy became stronger, leading to their bond.
Snoopy’s resilient personality shines through despite the challenges he faces. While he gets along well with humans, he struggles to get along with dogs. The joy that radiates from him when he is let out of the kennel is truly contagious; It seems like every day is a better day for him.
Snoopy has needs. It does not require intense activities or long walks. All he really wants is to enjoy the sun in the backyard with his buddies.
The shelter community generously provided Snoopy with toys and donations to support him.
One kind hearted person noticed that Snoopys’ doghouse only contained a blanket, so they arranged for a comfy orthopedic bed to be sent to him.
Sydney, who works at the shelter, has formed a bond with Snoopy because he is her dog.
Despite some health concerns, Snoopy’s prognosis looks promising thanks to the medication he’s taking. The vet thinks he still has years to go. Treating Cushing’s disease can be expensive, with vet visits and various medications.
Given Snoopy’s age and special needs, this financial burden may discourage adopters.
Many people are hesitant to adopt a dog with health issues because they are nervous about owning it for a short period due to their health. Julie expresses her desire to adopt Snoopy even though she already has two dogs.
When he was placed in foster care, Snoopy got a break from the shelter.
He had to go to the shelter because the arrangement didn’t work. Snoopy only had one chance to meet an adopter in 653 days, at the shelter. They planned a meeting. The person interested in adopting him did not show up.
Snoopy’s story is a reminder of the challenges dogs and people with special needs face in shelters.
Despite his health problems and spending time in the shelter, Snoopy’s spirit remains unbroken.
Snoopy’s journey is not over yet. We remain hopeful that he will find a loving home where he can spend his years.
Snoopy’s story should inspire us all to show compassion and understanding to all animals with needs.
