“Have you ever thought about what happens when dog owners give them up?” “She’s watching.” She can’t wait to be reunited with her family.
This week, people in Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania noticed a collie-like dog wandering around a local park. She looked cold and alone. She wouldn’t let anyone get close to her.
Concerned community members reached out to Janine Guido, founder of Speranza Animal Rescue, a well-known organization dedicated to saving animals.
“She stayed there almost as if she was waiting for her family to come back.” Unfortunately they never did despite Guido’s efforts. Guido relied on the community’s help to locate and rescue the dog. People reported their sightings to her so that Guido could track down the missing puppy.
However it was not important.
“On my second visit I was able to hand feed her,” Guido said. “…Whenever I tried to restrain her, she would retreat.”
Guido comes so close to gaining Carlas’ trust that the frightened dog runs away into the woods.
Meanwhile, Speranza’s Facebook page played a role in spreading the word so people could help locate the dog. “Have you ever wondered what happens to a dog that was abandoned by its owners?” Speranza Animal Rescue shared this news on Facebook to highlight how she has been patiently waiting for her family to return.
“The park was very crowded,” Guido said. “She kept being amazed by all the people around her.” Eventually she managed to escape from the forest and others followed her.
Despite two days of searching, there was no trace of her on Wednesday, worrying many.
But Thursday morning brought some news when we got a call that Carla had been found sleeping under the porch in the back. Guido’s adventure has already begun.
“I almost caught her once but she got scared again,” Guido explained.
Carla ran away.
Hours later, Guido began broadcasting on the Speranza Animal Rescues Facebook page, sparking everyone’s curiosity about what would happen next.
As the camera panned out from the drivers’ side of the car and captured their road trip, Guido recounted his experiences. He expressed his horror at what happened within hours.
Guido received another phone call hours later informing him that Carla had been spotted again. In a video, Guido excitedly shouted, “We found it! Your new life starts now. We appreciate you. We will keep you safe.”
Talk to The Dodo Guido and share how he gained this shy pup’s confidence. “I was able to convince her to stand on the balcony,” he said. “She couldn’t escape because the other two ladies blocked the entrances.” “I secured her with a leash and from that moment everything changed.”
Guido discovered that Carla was 10 years old, did not have a microchip, and was severely underweight by 15 to 20 pounds when he brought her to the clinic.
“We don’t know who it belongs to,” Guido explained. “There have been no reports of missing persons. Unfortunately, we suspect that someone has abandoned her, which explains why she resides in that area.”
Carla was exhausted after spending days outside. According to Guido “she could barely keep her eyes open.”
Guido immediately arranged for Carla to stay in a quiet house to ensure her safety and allow her to recover. Carla arrived Thursday evening.
Once she is fully recovered, we will make Carla available for adoption.
Guido expressed, “Carla has a wonderful spirit even though she seems afraid. But as soon as I got her into my car, she seemed to sense that she was in an environment.”
