After narrowly escaping the relentless hunters who had been firing at him, the exhausted and terrified dog collapsed by the river. For days, he lay there in fear and agony, unable to move, even as hunger and thirst consumed him.ย
Despite the river’s proximity, he couldn’t muster the strength to drink from its waters. Sleep was a distant dream, as the biting cold pierced his fragile body.
Bravo, Fahrudin Caki, and a team of dedicated shelter volunteers received an urgent report about the dog’s dire situation near the river. Wasting no time, they sprang into action, rushing to the location to rescue the helpless animal.
Navigating through a challenging terrain, they discovered the dog in a heart-wrenching state: freezing, starving, and writhing in pain.
They couldn’t help but wonder how long he had been suffering like this and what events had led him to this unimaginable ordeal. Assessing the severity of his injuries, Fahrudin realized that the dog was unable to stand on his own.
“The puppy we rescued today near Sarajevo is in excruciating pain,” Fahrudin lamented.
“He may never walk again, let alone run joyfully and freely. Tonight might be all that he has left!” The dog, who was later named Cuko, had been forced to endure the sheer terror of being shot at by an unknown assailant, leaving him riddled with buckshot and unimaginable pain.
The veterinary team worked tirelessly to preserve Cuko’s life, and after six days, it was clear that he still had a strong desire to live. Tragically, Cuko was left crippled, simply for being in the wrong place at the wrong time.
The next critical steps involved helping him regain his physical strength and determining whether he could withstand surgery to remove the buckshot from his spine.
The ultimate question was whether Cuko would ever have a chance to walk again after the ordeal.
For now, one thing was certain: the volunteers’ unwavering commitment to helping Cuko matched his powerful will to survive.
And from what they had seen thus far, Cuko’s determination to live was nothing short of extraordinary.
